Photographing Süleymaniye Mosque

Süleymaniye Mosque was commissioned by Süleyman the Magnificent and designed by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan. An inscription specifies the foundation date as 1550 and the inauguration date as 1557.

  1. Süleymaniye mosque was a highlight of my 3 days in Istanbul. Like the mosque in Üsküdar, it was built by the great, prolific Mimar Sinan, and like Süleyman’s daughter’s, incorporated a small neighbourhood “town” with a hospital, school(s) and facilities for its people. This is an important aspect of the caring that went into planning these beautiful and lasting projects.

Your photos are beautiful and inspiring!

There is a story to my determined effort to visit this special place. You can find it by searching for Süleymaniye on the front page of my blog.

    1. I will look for your story now. Thank you Mytiturk for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it. Having left Istanbul now, I miss it and what I miss most is the atmosphere and ambience. I am very lucky to have lived close to Süleymaniye mosque so I could visit it often. 😊
